Anna Rogers and Chris Mullen announce the launch of Arc Pensions Law – covered in Pensions World and Financial Reporter

Leading pensions lawyer Anna Rogers, the current chairman of the Association of Pension Lawyers and a former partner in the pensions practice of Mayer Brown, and Chris Mullen, who spent 20 years in the industry as a pensions partner before most recently serving as the senior partner of Pinsent Masons, have started a new firm Arc Pensions Law at www.arcpensionslaw.com.

With over 30 years’ experience at the leading edge of pensions law, Anna Rogers becomes senior partner at the firm and Chris Mullen becomes managing partner.

The new firm believes there is scope for more competition in the pensions law market, where clients can get direct access to senior legal counsel who are focused exclusively on the needs of their industry. At a time of increasing price pressure on providers of legal services, Arc Pensions Law is designed to meet the needs of these clients, particularly employers and trustees, as well as law firms who do not have their own dedicated pensions capability and who require specialist support.

Commenting on the launch, Anna Rogers, a former Pensions World editorial board member and contributor to the magazine, said: “Although it is sad to leave behind many wonderful colleagues, this is the right time for me to put my energy into a new challenge. Arc Pensions Law is a specialist practice focusing entirely on the needs of pensions clients. The pensions world is at a crossroads and it’s a great opportunity for a law firm operating on a different model from the traditional one. There’s space for all of us and I very much look forward to building something new” said Ms Rogers.

Commenting on the differences between Arc Pensions Law and more traditional law firms, Ms Rogers said: “We are determined to make Arc Pensions Law a business which is genuinely driven by our values and which provides a supportive, flexible and exciting work environment for everyone who joins us. I’m convinced that this is the best way to deliver consistently high standards of client service.”

Co-founder Chris Mullen said: “We’re very excited by the tremendously positive reception we have received so far from clients and industry colleagues.”

Commenting on the trend which is seeing more and more boutique start-ups in the legal sector in recent years, Mr Mullen added: “Having worked for 30 years at a senior level in a major, traditional law firm, first as a national operator and over the last ten years, as an international operator, I have seen both the strengths and weaknesses of that model. For clients operating in the pensions world, I’m convinced that a bespoke, partner-led service from a specialist boutique hits the mark better. Also, thanks to our tightly-focused strategy, we believe we are more capable of delivering consistently high levels of service.”
